Key Lock Boxes and Their Benefits
When it comes to key lock boxes, we tend to think of the real estate industry. Key lock boxes are little
boxes that often hang right on the door knob. They have a hidden compartment for you to store a key.
These lock boxes are often combination locks, which always enabled a number of real estate agents to get the spare
key, open the front door, and show the home. Despite commonly being used by real estate agents, you can
benefit from having a key lock box at home as well. How so?
Your spare key is in plain sight. Hiding a spare key isn’t always as easy of a task as we’d like to
think. We are encouraged to think of someplace out of the box. After all, most criminals are going to
look in or around your potted plants, under the doormat, on top of the door frame, and so forth. By the time
you end up finding a good stop, you can be halfway across your yard. With key lock boxes, you are able to
“hide” your spare key in plain sight.
Despite being in plain sight, your spare key is safe and secure. This is because it is within that lock
box that must be opened with the proper combination. So even though anyone who walks up to your front door
can easily guess that your spare key is inside, it doesn’t matter much because they won’t be able to access it.
These key lock boxes are great for some individuals. Lets say that you have an on-the-go teenager who
always seems to lose things. Of course you don’t want to take a chance with your house key. With a lock
box installed right to your front door, there is no worry. Give that teenager of yours the combination and
she can easily come and go from the home without needing to physically carry a key herself.
These boxes are also idea for when you can’t be in or around your home. Lets say that you are on vacation;
you don’ t want to give your neighbor a spare key to hang onto the entire length of your trip. Give them the
code to your key lock box instead (you can change it once you return home). Or, if you are unable to let an
emergency workers into your home all you need to do is tell them your combination and they will have quick access
to your home.
As you can see, there are a number of benefits to going with key lock boxes as opposed to hiding your spare key
wherever. Despite what you might have heard in the past, these lock boxes can be used around a home; they are
just for businesses or real estate agents.
